This years WheaEsta will have more kids activities, don’t forget your swimsuit, weather permitting there will be several water games.  Demonstrations by the OSU Extension office as well as our a few local residents will be held throughout the day on Saturday for everyone.

Have you ever wanted to bee Queen for the day? How about Queen for a year? Now is your chance girls, if you are interested in participating in the 2009 WheaEsta pageant or interested in being a sponsor please contact Ali Milligan 822-4555 or Heidi Nease 822-3100.

In preparation for Whea Esta there will be a cooking class offered FREE of charge for children from Kindergarten-age up to 9 years old, the children will learn from a couple of our local experts how to make and decorate cookies and cupcakes, we hope this will be a learning experience which will lead to a new hobby your whole family can enjoy and we hope they will bake and decorate items to enter in Whea Esta.

Delane Kehnemund will have her Intermediate level sewing class July 20-24 for ages 12-14.  These children will be working on their choice of a blanket with binding, shorts or skirt with set on waistband, or a polar fleece item and if time permits, they can also learn to recycle a garment.   Class size is limited so call Delane @ 822-3001 to reserve a place and learn class time, location and list of items to purchase for class.

We are offering a new section to our Whea Esta exhibits: Past winners- Do have the quilt and the blue ribbon your Grandmother won? I took a stroll through a local cemetery the other day and learned something about a woman I had hear of for years but I never knew she had a long line of blue ribbons!  This made me wonder how many great items are stored away that people would really get a kick out of seeing!  Dust them off and bring to Whea Esta, we will not be judging them, just enjoying them.  Bring pictures of the winner with the item and/or ribbon(s), article, etc.

WheaEsta booklets will be available the first part of August and may be picked up at local businesses or the Okeene Chamber office. Contact the Okeene Chamber at 822-3005 if you have any questions.

Whea Esta is such a good reason for people to try something new, or show off a talent nobody knows about it.  Try stepping out of your comfort zone a little this year and have some fun with Whea Esta!
